Since Scatter’s inception, we have actively encouraged artists to use NFT.Storage. As a public good, NFT.Storage plays a vital role in preserving digital assets, but it now faces an urgent need for community support. Together with NFT.Storage, we are launching a special collection to help safeguard NFT data for the long term. This collection will feature unique works by artists from across web3, and every mint will contribute directly to NFT.Storage’s mission of keeping NFTs safe, accessible, and preserved as timeless assets for all.

Why This Matters: Addressing the Off-Chain Data Problem​

NFTs usually depend on off-chain data, like images and media files, for their content. However, off-chain storage can be fragile—without ongoing, reliable support, many NFTs risk becoming "dead" assets, where linked media and metadata are no longer accessible. In 2023 alone, one-third of all NFTs faced this fate. This growing issue threatens the integrity and longevity of digital assets, impacting creators, collectors, and platforms that rely on dependable NFT storage to maintain the value and cultural significance of these works.

Impact on Scatter Collections: Scatter is committed to long-term pinning for its collections, like those created with Instareveal. However, NFT.Storage supports far more data than Scatter alone can maintain. To continue these essential preservation services, we’re calling on the web3 community to help secure the future of NFT.Storage.

The Fundraiser Collection: How You Can Help​

This fundraiser, organized by Scatter for NFT.Storage, is open to all artists. Your contribution will support NFT.Storage’s mission to preserve NFTs as timeless assets, aiming to ensure their accessibility and longevity.

  • If You’re New to NFT.Storage: Join us! We welcome all NFT artists to participate and help make this initiative a success.
  • If You’ve Used NFT.Storage Before: Your support is especially meaningful. This is your chance to give back and contribute to keeping your own creations accessible for years to come.

The collection will use Scatter’s ERC-1155 Random contract, enabling collectors to mint unique or ultra-rare editions of digital art from leading artists in Web3.

This is more than an NFT collection; it’s an event to support a public good. Every purchase supports NFT.Storage’s mission to preserve NFTs as timeless assets.

Submission Guidelines for Artists​

Join other creators to make a difference! Here’s how to contribute:

  1. Prepare an original art piece of yours in .png format, between 1000x1000 and 5000x5000 pixels. The art can be something you made before in the past, but it should not be something that was an NFT before.
  2. Connect with Scatter: DM Scatter on X with a preview of your artwork and confirm your artist profile. This is essential for us to verify artists. If you can't DM, follow us, and then in the e-mail you send link your X profile. We'll DM you first and you can verify then.
  3. Send the full-resolution image to [email protected], including a brief artist bio and social links for metadata. Specify if your artwork should be a standard rarity or “ultra-rare” and if so indicate the preferred edition size (e.g., 1, 10, or 100). Do this! We will reply to you in the future to confirm your X account to verify you.
  4. Promote: When the collection is live, tell your followers why it’s important to mint and support NFT.Storage.

To make this project even stronger, we’re seeking an L2 partner who shares our vision of preserving NFTs. If you represent an L2 that could support this collection, please reach out to us! If we don’t yet support your L2, we can fast-track integration if it’s EVM-compatible to ensure your involvement.
