Royalties

Scatter is bringing royalties back to NFTs and putting them into the hands of the communities who love NFT collections. Marketplace fees can support a collection's owner or reward the people bringing collectors to Scatter through shill links.

Collection Eligibility

To receive the collection-owner share of marketplace fees, a collection must either launch on Scatter or be approved by Scatter.

If your collection launched elsewhere, contact Scatter to request approval:

See Contact for the team's contact details.

If you launched your collection on Scatter, open Collection Management → Marketplace and review Royalty Payments for its royalty status, share, and registry recipient. Owners of collections launched elsewhere can access the Marketplace tab through the direct editor URL. Editing contract-specific payout and royalty settings requires a collection launched on Scatter. See Collection Marketplace Settings for access details and marketplace earnings charts.

How Royalties and Shills Share the Fee

Scatter charges a 5% marketplace fee on sales completed through Scatter. When no shill link is active, an eligible collection's owner receives 2.5% of the sale price, and Scatter receives the other 2.5%.

If a shill link is active, the shill receives that 2.5% share instead of the collection owner, and Scatter receives 2.5%. The shill share applies regardless of whether the collection launched on Scatter or has been approved. If there is no active shill link and the collection is not eligible, Scatter receives the full 5%.

The marketplace shill's share is sent directly to their payout wallet at purchase time; it does not require a separate claim or withdrawal. See Marketplace Shills.

These shares come from the same marketplace fee. See Marketplace Fees for the complete breakdown. Fees already encoded in a listing from another marketplace are additional to Scatter's fee; see Listings from Other Marketplaces.

Marketplace Shill Sharing Is Required

Collections cannot opt out of their collection royalties going to an active shill. This is by design: Scatter rewards holders and community members who keep collections active and promote them to new collectors.

To make the most of this system, collection teams should consistently promote their collections on Scatter using their own shill links. This gives teams a way to maximize their royalty income by actively bringing collectors to Scatter.

Collection owners and community members can also share their own shill links. This lets a collection earn referral fees even if it has not launched on Scatter or been approved.

The benefit extends beyond your own collection: while your shill link is active for a user, you can receive the shill share from their marketplace purchases of other collections on Scatter too.

This site-wide credit also applies when the referral starts from a link to a collection's mint page. See Site-wide Referrals.

A clicked marketplace shill link stays active for 30 days. See Shill Link Duration for how another click refreshes or replaces the active link, and Shills for the distinction between marketplace referrals and minting shill programs.
