Shills
A shill link is a referral link that can reward the person sharing it when someone uses it for an eligible transaction. Minting and marketplace referrals have different fee rules.
Minting Shills
Collection owners configure their minting shill program, including its fee, discount, and who can join. This program is optional.
Follow Minting Shills for the setup instructions. Do not apply a collection's configured minting shill percentage to marketplace sales.
Marketplace Shills
The marketplace uses a fixed referral share when a shill link is active. That share comes from the marketplace fee; it is not an additional fee on top of it. See Marketplace Fees for the percentages and collection-owner eligibility rules.
Marketplace shill rewards are paid directly at purchase time. When a referred user buys an NFT, the shill's 2.5% of the sale price is sent to their payout wallet as part of the purchase transaction. There is no separate claim or withdrawal step for marketplace shill income.
Collections cannot disable marketplace shills or opt out of an active shill receiving the collection's royalty share. The optional minting program's fee, discount, and enrollment settings do not change this. Read why marketplace sharing is required.
Collection owners and community members can share their own shill links to earn from marketplace purchases across collections. See Royalties for collection approval and how owner and community rewards work together.
Site-wide Referrals
Referral credit applies across Scatter, even when the clicked shill link leads to one collection's mint page. It can apply to eligible mints from other collections and marketplace purchases, not just activity on the linked page.
The reward still depends on the transaction: minting follows the collection's shill settings and eligibility rules, while marketplace purchases follow the fixed Marketplace Fees.
Your Shill Code and Payout Wallet
Use Manage Account to set your shill code, view your site-wide referral link, and select a linked payout wallet. That guide also explains what happens to earlier rewards when you change the payout wallet.
Claiming Payouts
Minting shill rewards require claiming; marketplace shill rewards do not. Marketplace rewards are already sent directly to your payout wallet when the purchase settles.
Connect to Scatter and open Payouts ↗ to review available Collection Earnings and minting Shills Earnings. The header shows your Claimable total and linked-wallet summaries.
Use Claim All to start claiming available payouts across linked wallets, networks, and collections from one place. Review and complete any wallet prompts.
When there are no available payouts, the page shows No Payouts Available, the claimable total is zero, and Claim All is inactive.
If you changed your affiliate payout wallet, see Payout Wallet for how to access earlier unclaimed minting rewards.
Shill Link Duration
NFT minting and marketplace shill links both stay active for 30 days after the user clicks them:
- Clicking the same link again refreshes its 30-day period.
- Clicking another shill link replaces the previously active link and starts a new 30-day period for the new link.
- If the period expires without another click, that link is no longer active.
This period describes how long a link is active. Minting rewards still depend on the collection's minting shill settings and eligibility rules; marketplace rewards follow the fixed Marketplace Fees.

Disclosing Shill Links
When you share a paid shill link, always disclose that it is a paid referral link. In many countries, this disclosure is required by law. And many platforms also require this disclosure, such as X where if you post a Scatter shill link you must click the Content Disclosure flag icon and then check the "Paid partnership" toggle. If you do not enable this disclosure when posting Scatter shill links on X your X account can get suspended.
