IPFS
The Scatter Uploader is the recommended way to upload and host your collection. It handles hosting and metadata without requiring you to manage an IPFS provider or configure a base URI.
IPFS is an advanced, self-managed option. Only use it if you can independently prepare, pin, verify, and maintain your media and metadata, and troubleshoot hosting problems. If you need a guided upload and hosting workflow, use the Scatter Uploader instead.
IPFS Self-hosting
Manual IPFS hosting is for collection owners who have a specific need and can manage the entire workflow themselves. You are responsible for pinning your content, keeping it available, and checking that metadata and media resolve correctly. Use your chosen provider's documentation for setup and troubleshooting.
File Prep (Quick Check)
Use Prepare Your Files for media, numbering, and metadata requirements. Each token's metadata must point to its correct media file. For the manual base-URI workflow, metadata file names must be extensionless; see Remove JSON Extensions.
Set Your Base URI
Set the metadata folder's URI in the Contract tab using the format
ipfs://METADATA_CID/. Check that the metadata and its media links resolve
before using the base URI for your collection.
Remove JSON Extensions
For this manual workflow, the contract appends the token ID directly to the base
URI: ipfs://METADATA_CID/ + 1 becomes ipfs://METADATA_CID/1, not
ipfs://METADATA_CID/1.json. Name metadata files 1, 2, and so on.
If needed, use Scatter's Remove File Extensions webtool ↗. This extensionless requirement does not need to be applied to files uploaded through the Scatter Uploader.
Unrevealed Metadata
For an advanced, self-managed delayed reveal, see Manual Delayed Reveal. For Scatter's instant reveal on mint, use Revealing on Mint.
