Create and Launch an NFT Collection

Creating an NFT collection on Scatter starts with deploying its smart contract. This guide walks through the five steps at Create Collection ↗: Name, Network, Format, Mint, and Deploy. Launching an NFT collection also involves preparing its content, collection page, and mint lists; follow the next steps at the end of this guide before opening your mint.

Step 1: Naming Your Collection

Connect your wallet and open Create Collection ↗.

The on-chain collection name and token symbol cannot be changed after deployment. The display name on your Scatter profile can be edited later.

Enter the following details:

  • Collection Name: Your on-chain collection name, up to 64 characters.
  • Collection URL: A unique slug, up to 64 characters, used to create your collection's address on Scatter: https://www.scatter.art/c/your-slug.
  • Token Symbol: The shorthand or "ticker" used by block explorers for your collection. Use up to 8 uppercase alphabetic characters, without numbers.

Click Continue.

Step 2: Choosing Your Chain

Choose the blockchain network where you want to launch your collection. The screen separates Mainnet networks from the Sepolia testnet. See Supported Chains for the network list and gas currencies.

Contract availability depends on the selected network; ERC-1155 supports a subset of networks.

Click Continue.

Step 3: Choosing Your Contract Type

Choose the smart contract format that fits your collection:

  • ERC-721: Unique NFTs with sequential minting.
  • ERC-1155: Edition-style minting, including open editions and multiple copies of the same token.

The ERC-1155 Random option is marked Coming Soon and cannot currently be selected. For the differences between the available formats, see Contract Types.

Click Continue.

Step 4: Setting Your Collection Details

On the Mint step, enter the supply and any optional minting shill settings.

Required:

  • Max Supply: The maximum number of NFTs that can be minted in the collection. For ERC-721, you can adjust this after deployment, but never below the highest token ID already minted. ERC-1155 has per-token supply settings.

Optional:

  • Shill Fee: The percentage of mint revenue allocated to the shill, up to 50%. Setting a fee above 0 enables your collection's minting shill program. For example, with a 50% shill fee and Scatter's default 5% platform fee, the shill receives 50%, you receive 45%, and Scatter receives 5%. On chains with a different platform fee, you receive the remainder after the shill fee and that chain's Scatter fee. We recommend offering as high a shill fee as you are comfortable with, while accounting for the revenue you need to retain.
  • Shill Discount: A discount of up to 50% on each NFT minted with a shill code, giving collectors an incentive to use shill links. A 50% discount reduces the base mint price by half.

Not every collection needs a minting shill program. You can leave these optional fields for later, enable the program after deployment, and change the fee or discount in Collection Management.

After deployment, you can choose Public Shills or use Exclusive Shills for users with an approved wallet linked to their Scatter account. See Minting Shills for the enrollment and configuration steps, including Save Changes for enrollment and separate Write transactions for the fee and discount.

These shill settings apply to minting. They do not control marketplace fees or let a collection opt out of marketplace royalty sharing.

Set mint prices, schedules, and wallet limits later using Mint Lists.

Click Continue.

Step 5: Deploying Your Collection

Review the Name, URL, Symbol, Chain, and Contract Format on the deployment screen. Use Back to correct anything before deploying, especially the on-chain name and symbol, which cannot be changed afterward.

Depending on the chain, you may be required to pay a small fee to deploy your collection.

Click Deploy and complete the deployment transaction in your wallet.

Next Steps

Once deployment succeeds, your collection contract is on the blockchain and ready to configure. To finish launching your NFT collection:

  1. Prepare Your Files: Gather NFT media, metadata, and branding assets.
  2. Collection Profile & Branding: Set up the collection page's identity and appearance.
  3. Uploading Content: Upload and review your NFT content.
  4. Mint Lists: Configure who can mint, when, and at what price. A deployed contract needs a valid mint list before minting can begin.
  5. Collection Visibility: Enable Public Visibility when you are ready to publish the collection page.
