Selling NFTs & Managing Listings

There are two ways to sell an NFT on Scatter:

  • List for sale: Set a listing for a buyer to purchase later.
  • Instant Sell: Sell into existing collection bids, with the highest available bids filled first. The seller pays settlement gas.

For instant-selling guidance, see Offers & Bids.

Approvals and Gas

Before listing or using Instant Sell, the required collection approval for the marketplace's transfer operator must be active. Granting this onchain approval costs gas. A collection approval permits the approved operator to transfer NFTs from that collection according to valid orders; inspect the operator and permissions in your wallet.

Once the required collection approval is active, you can list more NFTs from that collection without paying gas to create each listing. You still review and sign the listing. If you revoke that approval, you must approve again to use it for future listings.

For Instant Sell, an unapproved collection requires an approval transaction followed by a separate sale transaction. The seller pays gas for both. With the required approval already active, only the sale transaction is needed. Follow Accepting an Offer for the steps.

ActionGas responsibility
Grant the required collection approvalThe owner granting approval pays gas.
Create a listing while that approval is activeNo listing gas; review and sign the order.
Buy a listingThe buyer pays purchase gas.
Sell into bids with Instant SellThe seller pays settlement gas.
Grant a bidding payment-token approvalThe bidder granting approval pays gas.
Revoke an approvalThe wallet revoking permission pays gas.

This does not remove the marketplace fee when a sale occurs. For editing and cancellation, review the wallet's gas estimate; costs depend on the network and current gas prices. Bidding requires a payment-token approval. Native-currency markets use the wrapped native token for bids; check the Bid panel's currency and see Payment Currency and Approvals.

Create a Listing

  1. Connect the wallet that owns the NFT and open its collection's Market tab.
  2. Turn on Owned By You, open the Sell panel, and select the NFTs to list. Each selected card is highlighted with a check mark, and its thumbnail appears in the Sell panel. Review the selected count, then click List.
  3. In Checkout → List for Sale, review each item and set its List Price in the currency shown. Check You Receive, Qty, and the combined fee summary. Use the Remove control to remove an item before continuing.
  4. Choose the listing duration under Expires. Review the displayed expiration date and time, then click List to continue.
  5. Complete Approve Collection if required, then Sign Listing, as described below.
  6. When the progress panel shows Listed, select Done and check your listing on the collection page.

If the Sell panel shows No Bids, there is no available collection bid to sell into instantly. You can still list your NFT for a future buyer.

List ERC-1155 Copies

An ERC-1155 token ID can have multiple copies. After selecting its card in the Sell panel, use the card's minus/plus quantity control to choose how many copies to list. The card shows the selected quantity against your balance: for example, 5 / 10 selects five of the ten copies you own. This is a copy quantity, not five different token IDs.

To list several ERC-1155 token IDs together, select each ID and set its own per-copy price and quantity, up to the number of copies you own for that ID. Price and quantity controls are available in the Sell view before opening the checkout popup, and you can edit each ID's price and quantity in the checkout list. Review each ID separately before continuing.

Select List to open checkout. The item row shows the token ID and Qty, such as x5. Its List Price and You Receive amounts are per copy; the checkout summary totals all selected copies. For example, five copies at 0.0001 ETH each show Items [5] totaling 0.0005 ETH. With the 5% Scatter marketplace fee, total You Receive is 0.000475 ETH, or 0.000095 ETH per copy. See Sale Proceeds for the fee split.

Review the quantity, per-copy price, total proceeds, and expiration before continuing. The approval and signing flow below also applies to ERC-1155 listings. For five copies requiring collection approval, the progress panel can show 1 Transaction · 1 Signature, followed by Approve Collection and Sign Listings [5]. After approval completes, review the listing signature requested in your wallet. Approval confirmation alone does not mean the listings have been signed or the copies sold.

Price Multiple Listings

You can select multiple ERC-721 NFTs or multiple ERC-1155 token IDs from the same collection and price them together in Checkout → List for Sale. Each token ID has its own row with Qty, List Price, and You Receive. ERC-721 rows have Qty x1; ERC-1155 rows can include multiple copies. The summary combines the selected items and their proceeds.

To Floor sets all selected listing prices to the collection's current floor price. Check the resulting amount on every row before signing; the floor can change as listings change.

Select Ladder to open Set all listing prices → Ladder. Enter a Starting Price and Increase By amount in the displayed currency, then select Set Prices. The first token-ID row uses the starting price and each following token-ID row adds the increment in the displayed order. For example, starting at 0.0000525 ETH and increasing by 0.001 ETH sets five rows to 0.0000525, 0.0010525, 0.0020525, 0.0030525, and 0.0040525 ETH.

Ladder steps prices between different token IDs. It does not give individual copies of the same ERC-1155 token ID progressively different prices: those copies share that ID's per-copy listing price. Ladder can also be useful for an ERC-1155 collection whose token IDs each have only one copy.

These are individual asking prices set before signing. Review which NFT gets each price, its You Receive amount, and the combined proceeds. You can adjust an individual row or use To Floor to set the selected listings back to the current floor price before continuing.

Listing Price and Duration

Each listing row has minus/plus controls for its List Price. Review that price and its You Receive amount, whether entered individually or set using the bulk pricing controls above.

Listings default to 3 months. The Expires dropdown offers:

  • Minutes: 15 or 30.
  • Hours: 1, 3, 6, or 12.
  • Days: 1, 3, 7, 30, or 60.
  • Months: 3 or 6.

The selected duration determines the expiration date and time shown above it. Listing duration is separate from the bid duration and shill-link period.

Scatter does not send expiration notifications. Track listing expiration dates yourself and review Expires in Profile → Orders.

Approve Collection and Sign Listing

For a collection that needs approval, the progress panel shows 1 Transaction · 1 Signature, with two steps:

  1. Approve Collection: Review and confirm the approval transaction in your wallet, then wait for it to complete. This step costs network gas.
  2. Sign Listing: Review and sign the listing order. This signature creates the listing without another listing gas payment.

Your wallet may describe the collection approval as permission to withdraw NFTs or as a Withdrawal request. Check the collection, network, and operator receiving that permission; collection-wide approval can cover other NFTs you own from the same collection. See Token Approvals.

The progress panel marks the steps Approved and Listed when complete. An existing active collection approval lets you proceed to signing without granting it again. A listed NFT is available for purchase; it has not sold yet.

Sale Proceeds

Review the expected proceeds and payment currency before signing a listing or accepting an offer. Listing checkout shows the fee breakdown and final proceeds. Instant Sell shows the net You Receive amount without itemizing fees. Buyers pay the displayed listing price without an itemized fee breakdown at buy time. Gas and the marketplace fee are different costs. See Marketplace Fees for the fee split and Royalties for collection-owner and shill shares.

The listing checkout summarizes Items, fee deductions, and You Receive. For an eligible collection with no active shill link, a 0.1 ETH listing can show:

LineAmount
Items0.1 ETH
Creator Support−0.0025 ETH
Platform Fee−0.0025 ETH
You Receive0.095 ETH

Here, Creator Support and Platform Fee are the two parts of the total 5% Scatter marketplace fee. The recipient split depends on collection eligibility and active shill attribution; use the shared fee table for those rules. Gas is separate from the You Receive figure.

Creating a listing does not pay out the displayed proceeds immediately. They are the expected sale proceeds when a buyer purchases the listing.

Fee payments included in your signed listing remain part of that order when another marketplace fills it. See Listings from Other Marketplaces for signed fees and Scatter's additional fee on externally sourced listings.

If an accepted offer pays WETH, use Scatter Swap to convert it to ETH. Check the payment currency and your token balance on the correct network. See Receiving WETH from a Sale. Use your wallet's transaction history and the relevant blockchain explorer to check a completed sale.

Edit or Cancel a Listing

Open the account menu at the top right of Scatter, go to your Profile, and select Orders (https://scatter.art/u/<username>/orders). Choose Listings, filter by network, wallet, or collection, and select the orders using the row checkboxes. Use Relist to edit and relist selected NFTs or Unlist to remove their sale listings. The table-header checkbox supports selecting orders together; review the selected rows and action counts before continuing.

Review the changed terms and complete the requested wallet steps. Gas costs for onchain actions are generally small but vary with the network and current gas prices. For the table columns, filters, bid actions, and marketplace-coverage note, see Orders and Bid Management.

An existing order should not be treated as cancelled merely because you log out, hide an item, or revoke permission to transfer it. Review and cancel unwanted orders using the available order-management controls.

Changing a collection's Settlement Currency does not cancel existing signed listings or bids. Those orders keep their original terms until cancelled or expired, subject to their funding and permission requirements.

Bids are managed from the same page: open Bids, select the orders, and choose Edit Bids or Cancel.

Scatter tracks onchain invalidation events and filters invalid listings and offers from the active orderbook. Transferring a listed NFT away or revoking its required approval can make a listing unavailable. Orders affected by revoked approvals or insufficient bid funds remain on Profile → Orders, where you can still unlist or cancel them. See Invalid Listings and Offers.

For what happens when a bidder spends or replenishes their payment tokens, see Wallet Balance and Settlement.

Review or Revoke Approvals

Use Security: Token Approvals for the shared guidance and the Revoke.cash ↗ approval dashboard. Revoking the required approval prevents transfers through that permission, so listings that depend on it cannot complete while it is revoked. Revocation changes a permission; it does not itself cancel a signed order.

An uncancelled order can become fillable again when its required approval is restored, provided its other terms still allow the trade. Review unwanted orders before granting permission again. See How Signed Orders Work for authorization, trade terms, and settlement requirements, and use Orders to cancel orders you no longer want.
